Frequency of Pumping: 4 Major Factors
1. Number of people in household: The more people the more you will need to pump. Generally, we like to say an average sized family will need to their septic system looked at every 3 years, and elderly couples every 5 years. If you have individuals in your household with long hair, we recommend that your filter is cleaned annually.
2. Size of your septic tank
3. The amount of wastewater generated
4. The volume of solids in the wastewater

Five components make up your septic tank:
1. Pipe from the home - all of your household wastewater exits through this pipe into the septic tank
2. Septic tank - watertight container usually made of concrete, fiberglass or plastic which holds solids, grease and oil
3. Filter - not all septic tanks have a filter but it is added as extra precaution to keep solids from entering the drainfield
4. Tile bed or Drainfield - liquid flows into the drainfield from the septic tank
5. Soil - water will slowly seep through the soil to remove any remaining contaminants

1. Look where your 4 inch drain pipe exits your home, it should be in line with that in most cases.
2. Your house blueprints or when your septic tank was constructed an inspector completed a "Certificate of Installation" which the township should have records of the location.
3. Sometimes it can be marked by a trap door on your deck.

Have your septic lid (service port) dug up and exposed, this allows us to easily access your septic tank. A garden hose handy for us to clean off the lid and the filter. A path cleared (i.e. a portion of your driveway) for our work truck to easily access the septic tank location. We love animals and children but for safety reasons, please ensure they are in a safe location away from the work site.
